The Kirtan Awakening
SOWING SEEDS OF LOVING SERVICE.
By Alison McEvoy
Krishna Das, devotee of the North Indian Saint, Neem Karoli Baba (Maharajji), is best known for his devotional singing and chanting in call and response style – known as the practice of Kirtan.
I first encountered Kirtan during my yoga teacher training course in an Ashram up in the Welsh Hills, in 2010. I
initially wondered what we were doing, how it related to the ‘yoga’ I’d experienced in parish halls and yoga studios in
Dublin. However, those wonderings fell away when I found myself drawn into an inner presence with myself by the sound vibrating within me.
THE TRADITION OF KIRTAN
Kirtan has been practised in India for thousands of years. It is tried and trusted, loved and revered as a practice of Bhakti Yoga – a yoga of awakening the loving devotion of the heart.
“When I’m chanting, the only thing I do is sing. I pay attention to the sound… anything that comes into my mind I
don’t focus on it, I just let it go and keep coming back to the sound of the music… the mantra. I move deeply into the loving presence that’s like our true nature… If I don’t sing, I sink. So, I keep singing.”
FINDING YOUR WAY TO ‘OKAY’
Krishna Das is refreshing in the way he speaks of what Kirtan does for him as a human being. Rather than transcending being human, ‘going beyond’ the mundane, or reaching a blissed-out state of being, he describes Kirtan as restoring him to a ground of being where he feels secure and grounded.
“When I’m chanting…becoming more aware of those feelings [loving presence], you get in touch with a basic
okayness in yourself, regardless of what is going on ‘out there’, which is a big thing… We’ve lost touch with this basic feeling that ‘inside I’m okay’…it’s covered up by our stuff, our anxiety, fear, shame and worry.”
Mantra carves a way through the thoughts carrying the shame, anxiety and worry and connects to the inner loving presence within that appreciates who we are, recognizes our ‘okayness’. We do not have to analyse the thoughts, reason with them or tend to them…there is a letting go and letting be. They may indeed remain with us but without taking centre stage, without blocking our access to being okay with who we are and “a basic good feeling” about ourselves.
“When I chant, the clouds part and I’m able to enter more deeply into that place inside. What it is, I don’t know, but it feels good.”
UNCOVER A LOVING GROUND WITHIN
After a while of living in India, recounts Krishna Das, he noticed the genuine love and affection among families. For many of us in the West and in more so called ‘developed’ countries, the focus of life shifts away from family and onto career, status and the individual’s journey through life, unfolding their personal potential.
Herein may lie the loss of loving presence in and among us. Where we do not encounter genuine “love and affection
and kindness” in our families of origin, we quickly lose sight of our true nature, lose out on the experience of receiving or giving these emotional and spiritual essentials. The resulting experience of lack within, neglect of our emotional and
spiritual needs for love, affection and kindness, can lead us down so many tracks as we search for contentment, hardly aware of what we are missing in the first place.
“The family life in the West is so lacking in real love and affection and kindness. People are so driven and so neurotic… In India, no one is going to throw you out of their hearts. And that gives you a feeling that’s much richer and realer and kinder to yourself in a way…In the West we are programmed to treat and judge ourselves so harshly.”
“It’s one of the reasons the world is in such bad shape because nobody loves themselves and everybody is looking for some substitute for self-love; power, fame, money, sex, love, stuff…”
“Chanting practice pulls you out of your stuff and moves you in the direction towards the place within that is just ok by itself, always has been, always will be.”
So many of our choices in life stem from not feeling ok with who we are, what we truly feel, and what we genuinely want. It can be hard to realize at some point in our lives, that what we have; the job, the relationship, the friendships, the roles and positions we play, may not be coming from our true, free and sovereign choice. Perhaps we chose these things out of an inner yearning that is deeply unfilled – a yearning for acceptance, belonging, love and affection. And sadly, the ‘stuff’ never fully satisfies these yearnings, such that the yearning and the search goes on….
It is so important to find something that connects us to an experience where we can access feelings of love, acceptance and belonging within who we are. Music, chanting, mantra is this medicine for so many around the world. Krishna Das acknowledges that when chants, he is sharing his medicine with the world.
“I share my practice that I do for myself with people…The chanting I do for myself, and people are part of the practice.”
SPIRITUALITY MADE SIMPLE
So where do we begin? How can we start restoring love to ourselves from a lifetime of seeking substitutes and not knowing what we were really missing in the first place? So often the world of spirituality is made out to be something complicated, mystical or out of reach. It is a breath of fresh air to realize that it need not be. It is perfectly within reach of hands and hearts, who want it to be so. We can all, as Krishna Das says, plant seeds in our own lives everyday, by choosing whatever brings us closer to love and kindness for self and others.
For KD, each chant is planting a seed.
“Every repetition is a seed we are planting in our own being, in our karma flow, in our own flow of life…And when
we plant a seed, it grows. You don’t stand around waiting for it to grow. You plant it, water it and then you go do the rest of your life.”
As well as planting seeds of love, kindness and affection for yourself and those close to you, it’s important to notice
where we are unconsciously sowing seeds which are not what we truly want in our lives.
“Unfortunately, every thought is a seed…twenty-four hours a day we’re planting seeds and most of those seeds
are just like weeds. At best they’re neutral but most likely they’re desire-driven, negativity planting those seeds. So, when we decide to plant some good seeds…some seeds of wholesomeness…love and caring and compassion and kindness, that’s a really big thing. Because only we can plant those seeds in our lives. Nobody can do that for us.”
THE ROOT OF SPIRITUALITY = SERVICE
Contrary to what we hear that spirituality is an individual journey, Krishna Das shares the perspective of his guru, that while “we thought the spiritual path is about me… it’s not.”
Oftentimes, the battles we face can be overcome by reaching a place of service to the world and others.
Our inner battles through fear, shame, anxiety and guilt cannot be fought alone, nor within the mind with thoughts.
It takes inspired action, action infused with heart, with love, with service to our higher selves and the higher selves of others.
“How do you find God? Serve people. How do your raise Kundalini? Feed people.”
Indeed, this strikes a chord. I’ve noticed, since becoming a mother and since having an older parent, that I am less occupied with myself. The devotion, the cooking, the feeding, the tending that I’m engaged with on a daily basis, has carved pathways in me that I could not explore before. No workshop, retreat or practice ever brought me this level of humility, self appreciation, courage, softness and grace. Just when I had to stop searching, I found what I had been seeking. Life gave it to me when I tended to myself and the people and circumstances around me.
THE PARADOX
We also need to remember that we are ‘people’. This is where the inner loving ground needs to be established. If we give from a place of not feeling good enough – giving to feel ok or giving to ‘be spiritual’ – then we are using spirituality as a substitute.
Krishna Das continuously includes ‘ourselves’ in the words of wisdom that flow from him. We are not to be forgotten in the giving. We are not to be martyred or sacrificed or our needs abandoned. We are as deserving of the service of our loving thoughts and actions, as every other human around us.
“If we allow our hearts to be completely destroyed by the amount of negativity we find in the outside world, then we are not good for anything. We can’t help anybody, we can’t help ourselves.”
“So, regardless of what’s going on out there, we have to find a way to meet each moment without fear, without shame
and without anxiety. We have to find a way to stay available to ourselves and others… That is our work and if we can do that, then we’ve done a lot.”
For Krishna Das, it is singing and chanting that lands him so deeply into himself, his inner core of loving presence, from wherein he can serve the world. For, you it might be spending time in nature, creating art, dancing, writing or any number of things that cut through the inner and outer noise of life and connect you to the feeling that you are okay just as you are. It is from this place where we are best positioned to show love and kindness to ourselves and to others. This is enough. This is already living a spiritual life. “It’s really not our world to run. It’s our world to live in and do the best we can.”

Pranic Healing is a powerful healing modality and spiritualschool that empowers people across the globe to harness prana, the ancient Sanskrit term for “life-force”, to accelerate personal healing. Master Hector Ramos, a renowned Master Pranic Healer, will be coming to Ireland later this month to share this wisdom.

Pranic Healing
Established by Grand Master Choa Kok Sui, Pranic Healing is a proven, non-touch energy healing method that transforms the body’s energy processes. According to Discover Pranic Healing, prana can be likened to Chi in acupuncture, as it “sustains life and enhances overall wellness”.
Pranic Healing is based on the fundamental principle that the body is naturally self-repairing with the innate ability to heal itself. By enhancing the life force in certain parts of the body, Pranic Healing supports the healing of a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional issues, such as anxiety and chronic pain.
Thanks to the Pranic Healing Centre in Dublin, led by licensed instructors David and Amanda Connell, people from all walks of life can learn the practical skills of Pranic Healing to support healing and transformation for themselves and their loved ones through courses and events held throughout Ireland. For those who wish to deepen their journey, the centre also hosts visiting senior teachers and Masters who offer the higher teachings and advanced spiritual courses within the Pranic Healing system.
Master Hector
Originally from the Philippines, Master Hector studied with Grand Master Choa Kok Sui, the founder of modern Pranic Healing and Arhatic Yoga, for twenty years. Since then, he has been spreading Pranic Healing and the higher teachings of Master Choa Kok Sui throughout the Philippines, India, Europe, Australia, parts of Asia, and the United States.
“Master Hector’s abilities as a teacher and a healer are like an ancient quality that he has, where he’s able to consolidate the wisdom from all the masters into a very cohesive message,” our publisher, Paul Congdon, shared.
It is important to note that the title of “Master” in the Pranic Healing school is highly honoured, given only to those who demonstrate a rare expertise in healing. There are only eight Master Pranic Healers worldwide, and Master Hector is one of them, now in charge of the Pranic Healing mission in Europe.
He is known for the warmth, ease, humour, mysticism, and high, pure standard of teaching he brings to his classes, which Paulcan attest to after meeting him:
“Pranic healing is one of my favourite healing modalities, and Master Hector is a man filled with peace, humility and love.”
Three Special Events
This month, which will mark his third visit to Ireland, Master Hector will deliver three spiritual events of different levels. Musing on his first impressions of the country in an interview, Hector recalled feeling the presence of many devas (the Sanskrit term for angelic beings) here.
“I thought because of that, it’s such a wonderful place to experience healing,” he shared.
His Archangels, Spiritual Helpers & Devas Workshop® on March 28th will offer a beautiful introduction to working with Archangels for inner guidance and protection. Incorporatingspiritual practices from the Pranic Healing system, this workshop, which is open to the general public, is designed to help people cultivate a stronger connection to higher spiritual energies.
From March 28th-29th, Achieving Oneness with the Higher Soul®, a transformative spiritual course, will take place. Open to the general public, it teaches powerful practices from the Pranic Healing system that “support emotional healing, spiritual growth, and a more purposeful life”.
Finally, on March 30th, all Pranic Healing Graduates will have the opportunity to join The Inner Teachings of Christianity Revealed®. Based on the Pranic Healing system, this profound course uncovers universal spiritual laws, the esoteric meaning behind the teachings of The Lord Jesus, as well as “practical methods to accelerate inner growth”.
All in all, this weekend promises to be a powerful experience of healing and profound spiritual teachings. In these uncertain times, these teachings offer practical tools to help individuals live a more purposeful and meaningful life.
The Power of Intention
Where other-help = self-help
By Alison Canavan
“We can heal ourselves. We can heal each other. We can heal our world.”
The above is something we may have heard, hoped for or glimpsed throughout our lives. The work of Lynne Mc Taggart however, pins down how this healing can come about and that’s what makes her work, and her words, so compelling.
Lynne has investigated, written and taught about the “miraculous power of intention” for the past number of decades. Her book ‘The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe’ is a seminal book in the field of New Science and Spirituality and has been translated into thirty languages.
She is true pioneer in the field of spirituality and science and her unswerving determination has acted as magnet for scientists all over the world who have worked with her in creating a host of “intention experiments”. To date, Lynne has run forty-two intention experiments, the outcomes of which have proven to herself, the scientists and participants involved that “it works” – intention works.
Groups of people, sharing and sending an intention, have worked to affect the growth of seeds, to lower crime and violence rates and to heal individuals of painful illness and circumstance. All these experiments are documented and many are showcased in ‘The Power of Intention’ documentary which Lynne created in tandem with the global conscious community ‘Gaia’.
THE ‘POWERING UP’ PROGRAM
Lynne started by studying Intention masters such as Buddhist monks and Qi Gong masters. She drew from these intention masters in order to create a fast-track for people to harness the power of intention;
“I saw they had different modalities in some ways but also a lot of commonalities. So I distilled the commonalities into a specific practice. I also added on to that things that had been discovered about the use of intention during scientific studies. So I put together the science and the ancient wisdom into a program I called ‘Powering Up’.”
The practice of intention Lynne drew together consists of a number of elements. Some of the core elements are; the group effect, concentrated focus, love & altruism and oneness & connection.
#1 THE GROUP EFFECT
After having seen the outcomes of forty-two intention experiments, around 2008 Lynne decided to distil all she had learned into a workshop setting and bring this information into the lives of ordinary people in need of healing.
“I was kicking ideas around with my husband and I said, ‘maybe I’ll just put people in groups of 8 or so and have them send healing to a member of the group with a health challenge…and my husband said, ‘I love it, the power of 8.’”
In that moment Lynne’s next big project was born. Later, in her book entitled ‘The Power of 8’, Lynne shares her findings having worked with Power of 8 intention groups large and small over the course of decades.
Ultimately, the size of the group is not important however Lynne found that 8 is the “goldilocks number. It’s not too big, it’s not too small, it’s just right…but if you’ve got 6, if you’ve got 12 there, it’ll work.”
When people are grouped together, there is a “supersizing” effect on the intention, Lynne notes;
“Psychologists call it collective effervescence. We are ramped up when in a group.”
#2 CONCENTRATED FOCUS
When we use our mind’s energy and focus to intend, it is not the same as using the mind’s energy to meditate Lynne has found;
“Meditation is like a letting go. This [intention] is a very, very concentrated type of focus. This is what I teach people.”
In meditation we go inwards and slow down the thoughts in order to enter the space between them. With intention, we are utilizing a specific capacity of our thoughts to go out into the world and affect people and situations. We often don’t realize we have this capacity, that we are, as Lynne says “leaky buckets. Our thoughts are trespassers and they can go out and affect other people and things.”
“We have 70,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day. Most of which are pretty negative…we are broadcasting negativity most of our day and all of those thoughts we have…that is also an intention and it becomes our life’s intention. So one of the things I like to help people with is becoming much more conscious of what we’re broadcasting to the world.”
#1 LOVE & ALTRUISM
The basis of all type of healing work, including Lynne’s work, is love. It is love for ourselves, life and others that allows us to entertain thoughts of helping and healing the world around us. Love is the fuel;
“What I teach is other-help. Love is the foundation of all of this.”
In the group structure which Lynne teaches, people are not only receiving healing but giving it much of the time, and this experience and energy of giving generates an internal healing experience for the giver;
“I see this over and over again, people intending for other people and getting physically healed, getting parts of their lives healed…Altruism is like a bullet-proof vest; when people do things for other people, no matter how small, they live longer, healthier lives – the science is there… ‘I want for you’ is the key to a long and healthy life. The group experience enables you to live altruism in action.”
This “mirror effect” of what we send out also reflecting back on ourselves is something we intuitively know about. I became aware many decades ago, and have since heard it said many times, that where others have trespassed on our lives in seemingly unforgivable ways we must find a way to let the anger and resentment go and to forgive – and we do so for ourselves. We are the ones generating the anger and resentment. Our bodies and minds become factories for it unless we decide we are going to generate/be a factory for something else and thus experience something more healing and helpful inside of us. The Power of 8 groups guide participants into the experience of generating love, healing and unity which is both sent outwards and reflected inwards.
Lynne thus believes that “the act of selfless intending for someone else…doesn’t just heal the target but clearly gets mirrored in the intender.”
When, in the initial workshops Lynne ran, where people were put into groups of 8 to send healing to a member of the group in need, it was reported that he givers were also receiving miraculous results, Lynne decided to put this phenomenon under the microscope. In doing so, Lynne uncovered another aspect to how the Power of 8 groups were working…Oneness.
#4 ONENESS & CONNECTION
Lynne set to work, alongside scientists at Life University, Georgia, US, to study what was happening in the intender’s brain during the Power of 8 sessions. They found that the participants were experiencing brain-wave activity which were almost identical to that of Sufi Masters and Buddhist monks during ecstatic prayer. They were having “a mystical experience…a state of ecstatic oneness.”
These people were not meditators and did not have the benefit of years of practice. They were in fact “total novices”. For this reason Lynne describes the Power of 8 groups as “ a fast-track to the miraculous.”
“We experience life in separation, like lonely people on a lonely planet in a lonely universe, but suddenly we come together in groups and we are not alone and we are in a brain state where we experience ‘the field’ – we experience a mystical state of oneness and that, I believe, is where the real miracles start.”
REMEMBERING OUR POWERING
Humans have been coming together in groups for eons, and for good reason. For a society where so much has changed in the last 100 years, for better and for worse, we need reminding of the power within and the power we can generate when we gather together.
As a mother, I see daily the effect of my gaze, my thoughts and my intentions on my son. Children blossom or wither under the gaze of either a loving or an overly-critical parent. Children left in orphanages can die from lack of a loving human intention and gaze. We hold the power of life, death and everything in between in our minds and our intentions.
Where people have grown up without the group intention of a loving family to hold them through their life challenges, these groups are life changing and a life blood towards health and healing. Strangers coming together to ignite and unite the creative powers of their mind is leading to miraculous results and we are all worthy of miracles, great and small.
Participants in Lynne’s groups have been healed of sight-loss, liver disease, career failure and chronic pain and, as Lynne notes, while “it doesn’t happen every time, it happens enough to say that something extra-ordinary is happening.”
DUBLIN POWER GROUP
If you wish to learn more, Lynne’s books and the free online documentary are a great place to start. We will be hosting Lynne in October 2025 for a ‘Power of Intention’ full day workshop – see you there!
It was a pleasure to sit down with Lee Harris, a globally acclaimed energy intuitive, channeler, author, and musician. We discussed frequency, awakening, and his upcoming The Big Love Tour—his first European tour, which kicks off in Dublin on January 3rd. Excitement is already building around this unique event, promising a transformative journey through guided meditations, channeling, and live music.
Frequency and Awareness
In alignment with this issue’s theme, we first asked Lee to share his insights on frequency.According to him, frequency is the rate at which we vibrate, influencing not only how we feel internally but also how others perceive us. “If you’re irritated or angry about something, you’re in a frequency of irritation,” Lee explained. “That energy can be felt by those around you. But when you’re open-hearted and loving, that’s your frequency, and others feel that too.”
He emphasizes that we all have the power to shift our frequency, and in doing so, we can influence the collective energy around us. However, this shift requires awareness—recognizing when we’re in a wounded or contracted state and when we’re in a more expansive, open state. By tuning into these shifts, Lee believes, we can contribute to healing and transformation, both for ourselves and for the world.
Path of Awakening
Lee believes that our transformation as humans happens in layers. “Awakening, at first, brings things you’ll love and things you might feel confused or in conflict with,” he explains. “But there will be enough moments of joy and discovery that make the journey worth it.” As you continue on the path, he says, more and more is revealed. “It’s like cleaning out all the closets inside you and letting them rebirth energetically. You become a more receptive vessel, and as a result, you’re able to transform not only some of your relationship dynamics but also open yourself up
to deeper levels of consciousness, presence, intuition, creativity, and gifts.”
However, to tap into these gifts, Lee emphasizes the importance of doing the inner work. “We have to clear out layers of societal programming and conditioning—the voices from our childhood and beyond—before we can fully open ourselves to what’s possible,” he shares.
Living in the Light
For those committed to brightening rather than darkening the world, Lee believes the mission is clear—and more important than ever. “Whether you’re someone who does this publicly, like we do, or within your community or on your street, the work remains the same.” For Lee, his work, which reaches many, isn’t confined to large audiences or events. It’s also about how he shows up in everyday situations—whether with his mother, in a taxi, at the store, or at a dinner party with strangers. “The question is: How are you contributing to illumination? Are you creating it?
Are you magnetizing it?” Of course, there will be days when we don’t feel illuminated, Lee acknowledges, as we all face personal challenges. “And that’s okay,” he adds. “On those days, take care of yourself, heal, work on what you need to reset, and when you’r ready, you’ll be able to continue your path.”
The Z’s, the guides Lee channels, refer to those on the path of illumination as “Bridges to Consciousness.” However, this doesn’t mean we are always in that state—because, as humans, we have our own lessons and struggles to navigate. But ultimately, that is our mission.
Whether you’re walking a path of love, forgiveness, compassion, or uplifting others, your purpose lies within this greater sphere. Reconnecting with and engaging in that purpose is how so many of us find a deep sense of fulfilment and connection.
Small Acts, Big Impact
One simple way to shift our frequency, Lee suggests, is through something as simple as a smile. “The act of smiling can shift your own energy and open your heart,” he explains. “Even when we invite ourselves to smile, it not only lifts others, but it also uplifts us.” A smile, he believes, is a simple yet profound way to alter our frequency and invite more positivity into our lives.
And there’s more. “Let’s say we’re not having the best day. I’ve experienced this myself many times—you’re at the checkout in a store, and the person serving you is unexpectedly kind and friendly. Suddenly, everything shifts. The energy around you changes, and it can even affect the person standing behind you.”
The Big Love Tour
Lee describes the Big Love Tour experience as a “spiritual variety show,” though he prefers the term “experience” because of the deep, transformative energy it provides. Over the course of the evening, Lee channels guidance from the Z’s, answers questions, shares stories, and leads the audience through guided meditations. Almost everything is improvised. Days or hours before each show, Lee channels the theme for the night—something specific to that city, group, and moment. This theme often reflects the collective energy in the room, guiding the evening’s
flow.
Throughout the night, the energy is further enhanced by music, which adds depth and resonance to the experience. Davor Bozic, composer, musician, and Lee’s longtime collaborator, provides a live musical soundtrack that intuitively responds to the evening’s energy. In addition to this, there are about 11 pre-arranged songs throughout the night, a few of which invite the audience to sing along. “These simple, beautiful songs allow people to integrate
the teachings, weaving an additional layer of healing into the experience,” Lee explains.
Lee believes that the mixture of humor, energy teachings, channeled information, and music
helps create a multi-dimensional experience that leaves attendees feeling uplifted and connected.
It truly sounds like a one-of-a-kind experience, and we can’t wait to see Lee in Dublin.
