The jewellery of Oksana Utkina
by Aisling Cronin
Oksana Utkina is a ceramic artist and jeweller who creates breathtakingly beautiful, soul-filled pieces of jewellery. Oksana’s process is highly intuitive and spontaneous, led by the subtle stirrings of her spirit. Her journey began in summer 2018, when she began to have repetitive dreams involving crystals.
‘I would have dreams, over and over again, where people kept offering me pieces of citrine quartz,’ she explained when I spoke to her recently. ‘It still happens a lot: I dream about which crystal is needed in each piece. Quartz and black tourmaline are very popular, as they have clearing and grounding qualities that many people need right now.’
Oksana hadn’t expected to begin working with jewellery, but when she embraced this new calling, she found her previous experience with pottery very helpful. ‘I had already worked with clay for a long time,’ she told me, ‘so I had a natural ability in my hands when it came to working with crystals. My work is quite meditative. I find that different streams of energy come through in each piece. Sometimes I channel Egyptian energy, sometimes it’s more cosmic or intuitive. Then I put the finished pieces up on my Etsy or social media, and different different people will be drawn to different things.’
For Oksana, her work is a reminder of our inherent magic. ‘We are multi-dimensional beings – this is what I want to express when I work with the stones, and I hope that those who wear the finished pieces will be reminded of that, every day.’
