Essential Oils That Heal The World
By Yahaira Reyes
Founded in 2008, doTerra was built on the mission of sharing therapeutic-grade essential oils with the world. Having seen for themselves the incredible benefits that can be had from using these precious resources, a group of health-care and business professionals set out to make this mission a reality. They formed a company and named it doTerra, a Latin derivative meaning “Gift of the Earth.” Each oil provides the living essence of its source botanical, gently distilled from plants that are nurtured and carefully harvested throughout the world. They form a beautiful palette of botanical energies.
Meet David Stirling
I spoke to David Stirling, one of the founders and the chief executive officer of doTerra Essential Oils. A humanitarian and a family man, David has been an entrepreneur all his life. When he was around seven or eight years old he started his own little business greasing trikes and wagons. He hasn’t looked back. David’s background was mainly in technology. He worked in engineering and mechanics. For him learning about essential oils was a full-on experience. Because he wasn’t brought up within the holistic world, he was introduced in adulthood to essential oils. A curious mind, he wanted to learn how to use them, how they worked and experience the results. He was quickly impressed. Years later, a suggestion to create an essential oils company started the path and eight years later, doTerra is now a renowned company in the US and worldwide. As I spoke to David, I quickly realised how passionate he was, not only about the doTerra essential oils, but also the good works that doTerra are involved in.
Healing Hands
Healing Hands is the humanitarian organisation developed by doTerra working in different developing countries bringing work, education and assistance to those who need it. Healing Hands seeks to bring healing and hope to the world, for lives free of disease and poverty, and to empower impoverished communities with the tools needed to become self-reliant. doTerra provides for all overhead and administrative costs of the Healing Hands Foundation, ensuring that 100% of all donations go directly to those receiving aid. Projects include the mentoring of orphans in Bulgaria, well-drilling in Haiti, an earthquake relief fund for Nepal and school building in Somaliland. It is clear that doTerra aren’t just sourcing their raw materials from these communities, but are also having a positive impact in the areas in which they do business.
Co-Impact Sourcing: Changing the World Through Essential Oils
When the company began to grow and they realised they needed to expand their global supply, Co-Impact Sourcing was introduced. Working directly with the workers and producers of the oils in developing countries, doTerra cuts out the middle-man which allows them to create a cooperative benefitting producers and end-users alike.
A Man With A Mission
David says he is a free spirit who is always interested in many things, but when I asked if he would ever leave doTerra, he had never even considered it. He knows that he and all of those working with doTerra are very dedicated to their mission. They are just getting started, he claimed, and there’s plenty more to do.
