Mostly we all walk through life thinking we’re small—just one person among billions, struggling to make a difference, wondering if we matter. But what if science is now revealing something extraordinary, that you are far more vast, more powerful, and more connected than you ever imagined?
As Rumi alluded to all those years ago, you are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean, experiencing itself as a drop.
Let’s start with something beautiful and scientifically undeniable – every atom in your body was forged in the heart of a star. The calcium in your bones, the iron in your blood, the carbon that forms the basis of your DNA – all of it was created billions of years ago in the nuclear furnaces of dying stars. When those stars exploded, they scattered their elements across the cosmos. Eventually, those elements came together to form planets, oceans, forests… and you.
Here’s one of the most fundamental laws of physics, explained simply: energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only change form. Think about what that means. The energy that makes up your body – every vibrating atom, every spark of electricity in your nervous system – has existed since the beginning of time. It will continue to exist forever. It just keeps transforming.
Now here’s where I think it gets really interesting.
In 2022, three scientists won the Nobel Prize in Physics for proving something that sounds like science fiction: quantum entanglement.
Here’s what it means in everyday language. When two particles interact and then separate, they remain mysteriously connected. Change one, and the other changes instantly, even if they’re on opposite sides of the world. Distance doesn’t matter. Time doesn’t matter. They’re somehow still one thing, even though they appear to be two separate things.
Now here’s the intriguing question – what if this isn’t just true for tiny particles? Scientists are only beginning to explore whether entanglement-like phenomena might extend to larger systems, perhaps even to consciousness itself. Could the boundaries we perceive between separate minds be similar illusions – conveniences of perception rather than fundamental truths?
It’s still an open question. But it’s a question worth asking.
Here’s something important to understand: none of this is actually new. For thousands upon thousands of years – long before anyone built a particle accelerator or understood quantum mechanics – mystics, shamans, yogis, and spiritual teachers were saying the same thing.
We are all one. Separation is an illusion. You are the universe experiencing itself. What you do to another, you do to yourself. Everything is connected. Consciousness is fundamental, not matter. We create our own reality through our thoughts and beliefs.
Science isn’t discovering something new. Science is finally catching up to what the mystics have always known.
Science is a tool – a wonderful, useful tool – but it can only measure what it can measure. There are realms of experience, dimensions of reality, depths of knowing that no instrument can capture. The mystics accessed those realms directly. So yes, it’s fascinating that physics is now revealing patterns that validate ancient wisdom. But remember: the wisdom came first. The instruments are catching up.
You are not small. At the very least, you are made of stardust, connected to the cosmos through physics we can measure. At most, you might be the universe itself having a human experience. Either way, you’re far more vast than you’ve been taught.
The universe is speaking to you constantly. The question is: are you listening?
As you read this, we are tuning into each other.
