A Postcard from India 2016 (a beautiful message from Dawn):
I arrived late at night, gliding between mist covered mountains that, I am certain, moved and breathed like sleeping Gods and Devis. Prabhakar, my host, was waiting up for me, bright and cheerful as if it were the middle of the day. He welcomed me with dinner and, as I sat in the dimly lit canteen, I felt tension I’ve held in my body for years gently absorbed into the belongingness that surrounded me.
I barely slept. Wide awake and up at 2:30 am. I love waking up in India. The hollow clunking, shushing sound of plastic bathing buckets pushed under faucets, cup after cup of water poured over devoted bodies warmed by sleep, decadent chai, morning meditation, puja, a lazy sun climbing over slumbering mountains. I discovered wishing-granting trees planted along the path . . . like those on Mani Dveepa and first thing that first morning, I sat in meditation with Amma, Guruji’s wife, now the Guru of Devipuram. She welcomed me, asked me why I’d come, what I’d like to receive. I told her I was there to be with Devi.
Devi is Sri Sri Sri Raja Rajeswari. She is the cosmos. She sits in the bindu of the Meru Temple at Devipuram, in eternal sexual union with her Beloved, Sadha Shiva. He is the Shiva who is always there. The whole world is their Love. She is everything and everything emerges from Her. He is consciousness, eternally expanding to meet her. The task for us, as devotees of Tantra, is to become this Love.
For 6 days I was immersed in the Sri Vidya. I sat for six days with my teachers; Sheila Amma, Rama Amma and five more Sri Vidya devotess, all women. Sitting for hours, surrounded by adepts, offering puja, my mind dissolved. And when I received Kalavahana, a beautiful Sri Vidya puja, given to me on the eve of my birthday, I felt myself open in a way I haven’t in years.
I look forward to sharing with you all that the devotees at Devipuram have generously given me to share, woven together with modern-day sexology and bio-energetics practices. It’s going to be an extraordinary evening.
