Health Boosting Nutrients: Revolutionary Study Gives Hope for Heart Health
In this extract from our Autumn 2018 issue, we spoke to Sinead Mitchell of the renowned nutritional supplement and research company Pharma Nord. She had some exciting news to share about heart health, based on a revolutionary Swedish study! If you haven’t had a chance to pick up our Autumn 2018 issue yet, click here to find your local stockist, or here to subscribe to the magazine.

Health Boosting Nutrients
Revolutionary study gives hope for heart health
by Aisling Cronin
Pharma Nord is a Nutritional Supplement Brand renowned for its revolutionary approach to nutritional support. Its high grade supplements are backed by rigorous scientific research, which documents their products’ safety and superior bio-availability (which, in laymen’s terms, refers to how easily absorbed they are). Pharma Nord’s research database contains over 9,000 scientific studies which serve to inform their impressive product development program. To date, more than 300 scientific studies involving Pharma Nord products have been published, one of the most striking being the KiSel-10 study, carried out in Sweden.
I spoke to Sinead Mitchell, Product Trainer for Healthcare Professionals at Pharma Nord to learn more.
‘The KiSel-10 study was a five-year, placebo-controlled, randomised double-blind study,’ Sinéad explained. ‘Two Pharma Nord products were used in the study: Q10 and Selenium. While there has been a lot of research done about the benefits of selenium for heart health, and the benefits of Q10 for heart health – when taken separately – there wasn’t a lot of research out there investigating the relationship between them, or the potential impact of their combination, which was the primary focus of the KiSel-10 research. The KiSel-10 trial was carried out in a small town in Sweden, with Swedish citizens who were aged 70 to 88. 443 participants took part, making it a very rigorous trial.’
The aim of the study was to observe how Selenium and Q10, when taken together, would affect participants’ heart health. Participants were divided into two groups. One group were administered 200 milligrams of BioActive Q10 Gold every morning, combined with 200 micrograms of BioActive Selenium, while another placebo group did not receive either supplement. Once the five-year study was complete, the results amazed researchers: those receiving the Q10 and Selenium combination were shown to have a 54% reduced risk of mortality through cardiovascular disease.
‘In addition to the reduced risk of mortality measured by the KiSel-10 study over the five years, positive effects could also be seen in all of the inflammatory markers, which are used to measure heart health,’ Sinéad revealed. ‘In fact, in many cases, the supplementation eased the inflammatory markers to a point lower than would be considered ‘normal’ for the participants’ age group, which is fantastically encouraging.’
The KiSel-10 study is now referenced extensively in a number of leading health and scientific journals, including the European Journal For Clinical Nutrition. An additional fourteen further studies have since been pulled from the original KiSel-10 data, as health professionals seek to gather even more insight into the heart-protecting effects of long-term Selenium and Q10 supplementation.
It has been known for decades that Q10 – particularly when consumed in the high grade form, ubiquinol – is a very powerful nutrient, so the KiSel-10 study results, demonstrating the immense impact of both Q10 and Selenium on heart health, are not all that surprising.
Coenzyme Q10 (as it is formally known) is a natural, vitamin-like compound that all cells require in order to produce energy. Levels of this nutrient peak in our twenties and decline from that point onward. However, the discovery of coenzyme Q10 by American scientists in 1957, and the array of scientific studies done in the interim, has empowered us with a tool to potentially prevent this ‘energy drop’ from taking place. Selenium, too, has long been known for its incredible immune-boosting qualities. However it appears that these two nutrients have an even more powerful potential when used in combination.
Based on the promising results of the KiSel-10 study, it seems that long-term consumption of these vital nutrients could have the power to unlock new potential for longevity and improved health.
We Recommend: The Open Minds Conference 2018
If you’re looking for an event that is sure to inspire you, look no further than the Open Minds Conference 2018, scheduled to take place in Dooley’s Hotel, Co. Waterford, from Friday November 2nd to Sunday November 4th. We spoke to two of the Conference speakers to learn more!

Earlier this year, the Open Minds Conference – a much-anticipated health, spirituality, and global issues event, which was set to feature a wide array of Irish and international speakers – had to be postponed due to the arrival of the Beast From the East. However, this did not deter the tenacious team behind the Conference, who have now arranged for it to take place from November 2nd to the 4th instead. The venue is Dooley’s Hotel. Co. Waterford.
The Conference promises to offer something for everyone. Whether you are a spiritual seeker, environmental or social activist, free thinker, or a person just beginning to question the world around you, the range of talks available at this event will have you covered.
The list of speakers include cancer survivor and author Bernadette Bohan, Aisling Fitzgibbon (known for her activist role as The Girl Against Fluoride), musical truth author Mark Devlin, hypnotherapist Tom Ryan and Garda whistleblower John Wilson. Click here to access the programme.
One of the speakers is Andy Thomas, acclaimed author of The Truth Agenda and Conspiracies. He will be delivering two talks: ‘A History of Conspiracies’ on Saturday November 3rd and ‘Navigating Complex Times’ on Sunday November 4th. Andy has lectured extensively across Britain and around the world, covering subjects such as ancient history, British folklore and popular conspiracy theories.
In a telephone conversation with us, he explained, ‘I first became interested in the area of ancient mysteries and hidden history over thirty years ago. As I learned more, I gradually became aware that these things weren’t being reflected or reported on in the mainstream media. I could see that there was a mismatch between reality and what we are told is reality, and this was something I wanted to investigate. I wanted to figure out what was true and wasn’t true, and this desire has always driven my work forward over the years.’
Mary Helen Hensley – author of the recently-released book Bringing Death to Life (co-authored by Aidan Storey, Patricia Scanlan and Pamela Young) – is another speaker whose talk is a must-see. Her topic is ‘Life After Death Experiences’. This talk will offer attendees a fascinating insight into near-death experiences, and how those who have experienced them integrate their new perspectives into their everyday lives.
‘I was in an accident in 1991, during which I was hit at 75 miles an hour and had a near-death experience,’ Mary Helen says. ‘I had always felt connected to the ‘other side’ – even when I was very young – but after that accident, I found that I had certain abilities that I hadn’t had prior to the accident. I was able to touch somebody and kind of download their ‘hard drive’, in a sense: I could understand what was happening to them, or what had happened to them at some time in the past. These days, I work a lot with people’s energy frequencies: I describe myself as a glorified window-washer! My role is to basically wash away the debris that has accumulated on my clients’ ‘windscreens’ so that they can more clearly see their own path ahead.’
Many more subjects will be discussed during the Conference: the hidden mysteries of ancient Ireland, recent banking and eviction controversies, how you can protect yourself from electromagnetic radiation, the evolution of activism, and the hidden potentials of specific sound waves, to name just a few. The event programme and list of speakers will give you all of the details!
The Open Minds Conference certainly promises to be a mind-expanding experience, inviting attendees to consider a broad range of perspectives that they may never have heard of or considered before. The video below – featuring the conference’s Executive Producer Trevor Eivers – will give you an idea of exactly what you can expect.
Trevor sums up the event by saying, ‘be prepared for a life changing experience, and to feel an amazing energy and vibration – the ripples of which will spread far and wide.’

We Recommend: Matthew Manning’s ‘Healing Intent’ Workshop – 20th October
Renowned British healer Matthew Manning will soon be visiting Dublin later this month to deliver a profound workshop called ‘The Healing Intent’, designed to enable participants to unlock their own healing abilities. This will take place on Saturday October the 20th, from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. in the Talbot Hotel, Stillorgan Road, Co. Dublin. For booking information, just click here. Read on to learn more about Matthew and the event!

Healer Matthew Manning’s work has taken him to some profound places, beginning with a a great sensitivity towards energy and intuition in his childhood. His aptitude for healing eventually led him to undergo a great deal of scientific testing in later years, successfully demonstrating his ability to influence blood cells, mould samples, enzymes, seeds and cancer cells in a laboratory setting. He now has a great passion for helping others to tap into their own gifts.
As he stated during a phone call with us, ‘It’s an amazing journey and I’ve been on it for a long while – fifty years!’
Matthew is the author of eight books, including best-sellers such as The Link and The Healing Journey. He has also addressed MPs in the Houses of Parliament and doctors at The Royal Society of Medicine. His frequent appearances on British TV have included two BBC documentaries about his work. Alongside Sir David Frost, he also co-hosted the ITV series Beyond Belief.
Professor Karol Sikora, Professor of Cancer Medicine and Consultant Oncologist at Hammersmith Hospital, London, has stated: ‘Matthew has a remarkable track record of working at the interface between body and soul. His knowledge is outstanding in both breadth and detail.’
During his upcoming workshop in Dublin, Matthew will take participants through a series of experiential exercises, which are designed to awaken their own latent healing abilities. He believes that we can all learn to develop our proficiency for healing, and likens the process to learning how to play a musical instrument such as the piano: ‘Anybody can learn how to play the piano, with time and practice. It’s not necessarily that everyone can become a concert pianist, but we all have that ability to tap into our own gifts.’
The exercises he will present at the workshop will allow participants to personally experience both internal and external energies, and how these can dramatically change with their own healing intent. Attendees will also have an opportunity to work with him in small groups. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion around the topic of healing.
This workshop is sure to provide you with a wealth of insight, inspiration and grounded information about the healing process, whether you want to improve your own health and quality of life, or that of other people around you.
Matthew’s ‘The Healing Intent’ workshop – facilitated by Seminars.ie – will take place on Saturday October the 20th, from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. in the Talbot Hotel, Stillorgan Road, Co. Dublin. Click here to book your place. For more information about Matthew’s work, go to:
