We Recommend: Dr. Rupert Sheldrake’s Seminar ‘Science and Spiritual Practices’ – October 30th
The well-known biologist and author Dr. Rupert Sheldrake is visiting Dublin for a special seminar entitled ‘Science and Spiritual Practices’, which will take place on Tuesday October 30th, from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. in the Hampton Hotel, 19 – 29 Morehampton Road, Dublin 4. Tickets are available through Seminars.ie.
Dr. Rupert Sheldrake is a well-known biologist and author of more than 85 scientific papers and 12 books, including Science and Spiritual Practices. He was a Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge University, a Research Fellow of the Royal Society, and – from 2005 to 2010 – the Director of the Perrott-Warrick Project, funded by Trinity College, Cambridge, for research on unexplained human and animal abilities. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, Petaluma, California, and of Schumacher College in Devon.
Dr. Sheldrake has long been interested in the many intersections between spirituality and science. In an interview he conducted with us, he explained, ‘I am a scientist – that is what I have always done and that is what I still do – but I am also a spiritual seeker and I often do spiritual practices myself. These practices are a core part of my life. There has been quite a lot of scientific investigation into spiritual practice, and I am interested in that because it brings those two sides of my life together.’
He explains that despite the decline in traditional religious practice throughout Europe, a growing number of studies have shown that spiritual experiences are surprisingly common even among those who are non-religious. These experiences can include near-death experiences and spontaneous mystical insights, to name two examples. Studies that have been conducted on the effects of spiritual practices such as meditation have shown that these practices generally make people happier and healthier.
During his upcoming seminar in Dublin, Dr. Sheldrake will discuss a number of practices which are part of all religions, and which are also open to people with no religious affiliation, including meditation, chanting, rituals and pilgrimage.
‘There has been a huge increase in pilgrimage in Europe in recent years,’ he says. ‘In 1987, a thousand people walked to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, and last year, it was 300,000 people. This massive increase in pilgrimage on that very popular site has had an effect all over Europe, trickling off into other pilgrimage sites too.’
In this enlightening talk, Dr. Sheldrake discusses a core concept behind much of his work: why is there so much beauty in this world?
Dr. Sheldrake’s seminar will take place on Tuesday October 30th, from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. in the Hampton Hotel, 19 – 29 Morehampton Road, Dublin 4. Click here to get your tickets. Dr. Sheldrake’s website is:
We Recommend: Matthew Manning’s ‘Healing Intent’ Workshop – 20th October
Renowned British healer Matthew Manning will soon be visiting Dublin later this month to deliver a profound workshop called ‘The Healing Intent’, designed to enable participants to unlock their own healing abilities. This will take place on Saturday October the 20th, from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. in the Talbot Hotel, Stillorgan Road, Co. Dublin. For booking information, just click here. Read on to learn more about Matthew and the event!
Healer Matthew Manning’s work has taken him to some profound places, beginning with a a great sensitivity towards energy and intuition in his childhood. His aptitude for healing eventually led him to undergo a great deal of scientific testing in later years, successfully demonstrating his ability to influence blood cells, mould samples, enzymes, seeds and cancer cells in a laboratory setting. He now has a great passion for helping others to tap into their own gifts.
As he stated during a phone call with us, ‘It’s an amazing journey and I’ve been on it for a long while – fifty years!’
Matthew is the author of eight books, including best-sellers such as The Link and The Healing Journey. He has also addressed MPs in the Houses of Parliament and doctors at The Royal Society of Medicine. His frequent appearances on British TV have included two BBC documentaries about his work. Alongside Sir David Frost, he also co-hosted the ITV series Beyond Belief.
Professor Karol Sikora, Professor of Cancer Medicine and Consultant Oncologist at Hammersmith Hospital, London, has stated: ‘Matthew has a remarkable track record of working at the interface between body and soul. His knowledge is outstanding in both breadth and detail.’
During his upcoming workshop in Dublin, Matthew will take participants through a series of experiential exercises, which are designed to awaken their own latent healing abilities. He believes that we can all learn to develop our proficiency for healing, and likens the process to learning how to play a musical instrument such as the piano: ‘Anybody can learn how to play the piano, with time and practice. It’s not necessarily that everyone can become a concert pianist, but we all have that ability to tap into our own gifts.’
The exercises he will present at the workshop will allow participants to personally experience both internal and external energies, and how these can dramatically change with their own healing intent. Attendees will also have an opportunity to work with him in small groups. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion around the topic of healing.
This workshop is sure to provide you with a wealth of insight, inspiration and grounded information about the healing process, whether you want to improve your own health and quality of life, or that of other people around you.
