“Your cant stop the waves but you can learn to surf.” – Jon Kabat Zinn
Mindful Way, a mindfulness meditation centre with a focus on teaching you to bring it into your own life are beginning two new 8 week courses at the end of this month. The 8 week courses take the form of 9 sessions, beginning on the 27th and 30th of January, depending on which suits your schedule best.
The MBSR programme that Mindful Way teach was developed by Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare and Society, University of Massachusetts Medical School. It is an 8 week, 9 session programme designed to teach people how to integrate mindfulness in their everyday lives. It especially focuses on applying mindfulness to the whole range of challenges that can arise from life’s stresses and physical and psychological conditions.
What to expect
Over the course of the 8 weeks participants experience and learn to use mindfulness meditation in the form of formal practices, such as sitting meditation, body scanning and during mindful movement. Instructions and tailored individual advice is also given to help participants incorporate mindfulness into their daily activities and also to help them respond to stressful experiences in a more effective way. Daily home practice is part of this course. It is the aim of the programme to cultivate ways of learning and being that can be utilised far beyond completion of the programme and the various studies that have been done outline this to be the case.
The MBSR programme is intensive in nature and also life affirming. The patterns of the mind we will be working to change have often been around for many years so we can only succeed in shifting these habitual and automatic ways of thinking if we put in some time and effort. It can be challenging to find time and self discipline to attend the classes and to do the home practice but it is worth making a commitment to oneself to give it your best shot as only then you can make a decision whether this approach could be helpful for you and your life.
