Tomorrow – Monday the 13th of August – acclaimed yoga teachers Kitty Maguire and Gráinne O’Kane will be leading a special yoga workshop called The Pirate Queen at the Fleadh Cheoil as part of the Fleadh Cheoil, Drogheda, Co. Louth. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1.oo p.m. in the St. Peter’s Church of Ireland Parish Hall, Drogheda.
The Pirate Queen workshop promises to be a stunning experience: exploring the story of Grainne Mhaol through yoga, voice, live fiddle and bodhrán. Kieran Gallagher will play the bodhrán and Ben McKenzie, the fiddle. Here is a brief description of what Kitty and Gráinne will be offering:
Warrior of the heart
– led by Gráinne O’Kane.
This is a hatha flow practice that will ground and build strength with graceful warrior sequences, to fully embody the strength and resilience of the Warrior Queen. Embracing the ocean, there will be back bends, undulations & forward folds to capture the sway of the ship at sea with the fluidity and power of the feminine energy.
The Peaceful Warrior
A Yin Yoga practice
– led by Kitty Maguire
The Peaceful Warrior will be a soothing practice of stillness throughout the body, to the sound of the bodhrán’s heartbeat, that will bring the Pirate Queen home. Working through our personal battles, we can get into what prevents the love we deserve for ourselves and others. During this practice, you will learn to let go as you bask in the stories of The Pirate Queen to the sound of voice, fiddle and bodhrán.
All are welcome to join this celebration of music and yoga fusion. To learn more about what the workshop will hold, visit the event page here.

Discover the Benefits of Chi Fit Tea
Chi Fit Tea is an Irish company with a passion for high-quality, energising tea. They named the company after the Chinese word ‘Chi’, or ‘energy’, to emphasise the origin and heritage of their ingredients. When the founders felt that green tea, oolong tea and pu’erh tea were a little too bitter for them, they set out to create their own unique blend. They did this by blending a specific variety of powerful teas and spending months perfecting this blend until they were happy with the taste. They then set about finding an amazing organic tea producer in China. Now, Chi Fit Tea is composed of ten naturally powerful ingredients, full of naturally occurring properties that give drinkers an energy boost. This tea is great for pre-gym sessions, as the ingredients promote health and fitness benefits.

Healing is Voltage: Check Out the New Book Making Waves
Dr. Jerry Tenant – a board-certified ophthalmologist in the U.S., who is now the director of the Tennant Institute for Integrative Medicine – has a revolutionary approach to healing that he outlines in his new book, Healing is Voltage. He explains that every cell in the body is designed to run at -20 to -25 millivolts. To heal, we must make new cells. To make a new cell requires -50 millivolts. Chronic disease occurs when voltage drops below -20 and/or you cannot achieve -50 millivolts to make new cells. Thus chronic disease is always defined by having low voltage. His book aims to tell you how to measure your voltage in each organ, how to correct it, and how to determine why your voltage may have dropped enough to allow you to get sick.

If you have a passion for live music and natural wellbeing, the Groove Festival is perfect for you! This two-day summer festival is renowned for its combination of great food, fun activities, and high-quality performances by Irish and international music acts. It will take place in Kilruddery House and Gardens, Bray, Co. Wicklow, on the 19th and 20th of August 2017.
This year, Groove has introduced an all-new health, fitness and wellbeing precinct called Thrive. One of the many exciting events taking place at Thrive is a Yocella session on Sunday the 20th of August at 11.30 a.m, led by the experienced yoga and dance teacher Kitty Maguire. Yocella participants will be guided through a gentle yin yoga practice by Kitty, while cellist Anna Marcossi will provide live musical accompaniment. Ahead of her appearance at the festival, we spoke to Kitty to find out more.
What do you feel is unique about yin yoga?
Yin yoga is ultimately a self-acceptance practice – very different to the acrobatic, vibrant, yang yoga practices that many people are familiar with. Yin yoga is about ‘coming home’ to your body, in a sense. It’s not about striving for the best body, the best poses, or any other attachments that we don’t need.
How did you come up with the idea to combine yin yoga with cello music?
I always loved classical music, and I originally trained as a ballet dancer before moving on to teaching. I’ve been working as a yoga teacher for four or five years now, and as I began to work with yin yoga, I knew that cello music would be very supportive in that kind of space. I find the cello to be a very grounded instrument. Its music is very deep and strong, in comparison to other types of music that can really stimulate the body and become a distraction! Yocella is about completely accepting and nurturing yourself, and being in the present moment.
What are your future plans for Yocella?
Yocella is just one year old, and I hope it continues to grow! I’m holding a Yocella’s First Birthday event to commemorate that, from 3.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. on August 13th in St. Kevin’s Hall, Bloomfield Avenue, Portobello. It was a real honour to be asked to appear at Groove Festival, as there will be so many other fantastic teachers there. Being at the festival definitely won’t be a typical work environment for me, with so many exciting events going on!

We love the innovation and sheer classiness this lady Kitty maguire shows: super events, with a seriously good vibe, yoga and Indian food… whats not to like?!
Date: April 14th, 2017; Time: 18:30-21:30; Place: Kerala Kitchen, Upper Baggot street, Dublin.
Come & join Kitty Maguire for a fun filled Yoga kitchen with the fusion of ballet barre.
During a 90 minute Yoga barre session. Based on yin (stretch/calm) and yang (strength/lively) principles. We will fire and challenge the body with ballet movements at the barre followed by a yin yoga session for cooling, calming and releasing deeply into the stiff and restrcited areas of the body.
Both practisces have a different focus and by fusing these two different styles together there are huge benefits on the body.
This yoga barre session does not require any yoga or ballet experience (this is not a dance class).
Come along and feed your body for an evening of strength, nurture and nourishment.
