Wholesome Indulgence
The superb Supernature
by Aisling Cronin
If you’re a connoisseur of healthy yet indulgent treats, you may well have come across Supernature’s peanut butter cups or chocolatey nut clusters in your local health store, SuperValu or even Spar. These little nuggets of goodness are rapidly making a name for themselves – it’s hard to believe they are each crafted using just four ingredients!
Supernature’s story began when founder Noele McEvoy had to devise a creative solution to a health challenge faced by her daughter. ‘My youngest daughter Laura, when she was thirteen, had to go on a restricted diet. So she wasn’t allowed any dairy, gluten or refined sugar,’ she explains. ‘She couldn’t have sweets like her friends, and I didn’t want her to feel left out. so I began whipping up my own creations in the kitchen.’
Before long, word spread about Noele’s fabulous goodies, with Laura’s friends and their families clamouring for more. From there, Noele was inspired to set up a business, with the aim of spreading the magic to as many people as possible. Supernature is guided by strong ethical principles, ensuring that their chocolate is sustainably and fairly sourced. They work with farmers all over the world, including collectives on Indonesia and fourth-generation growers in California.
‘I’ve been surprised by just how many people like our treats,’ Noele reveals. ‘They don’t just appeal to niche groups, like healthy eaters or vegans. I often hear of people who would never usually touch any products marked as ‘healthy’. They give our treats a go … and they love them!’
