Full Name: Th?y Trung H?i (Brother The Ocean Of Faith)
Occupation/job: Buddhist monk.
Book: Biographies. I learn so much from books written by and about the spiritual teachers. In difficult moments, I always can find some relief just by remembering that I have them as great companions on
my path.
Music: My favourite sound is the sound of the bell. When the bell rings, I feel a deep connection with it and it helps me to establish myself in the here and now.
Food: My favourite food is sweet potato. I have been a vegetarian since I was 12. When I was small, sweet potato was my favourite snack. And it is now my stomach’s best friend.
Venue: It’s the still Sitting Hut. It is a small wooden hut in Upper Hamlet at Plum Village, France. Whenever I need to calm myself down, I just need to walk to that hut, sit down, breathe and I become as calm as this small, humble hut.
Event: The winter retreat: a yearly three-month long retreat where the monk and nun do not have to go out of the monastery. They just focus on their own practice.
Destination: Here and now; it is the destination of life.
Exercise: I like group games and sports. Playing on the field, I always have the feeling that I am not only playing the game but I am also playing with the very different ‘me’.
Spiritual Practice: Mindful breathing. For me, the in-breath and the out-breath are the most important elements for my existence.
Spiritual Teacher: Thich Nhat Hanh – he is a wonderful teacher, an outstanding companion and a great friend.
Quote: “There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.” – Thich Nhat Hanh
Thich Nhat Hanh is coming to Ireland from April 11th-15th. See www.mindfullnessireland.org for more information.
