Sneak Peek: The Iceman Cometh – An Interview With Wim Hof
We were very excited to interview Wim Hof – the amazing athlete and originator of the Wim Hof Method – for our Spring 2019 issue. In this sneak peek of the article, he shares the basic principles of his Method, the scientific grounding behind it, and how it can help us to open up to our full potential. To read the full piece, pick up a copy of the magazine in your local stockist or subscribe here.
We are excited to announce that Níall Ó Murchú – one of the foremost practitioners and teachers of the Wim Hof Method of breathwork here in Ireland – will be joining us at Positive Nights on Thursday January 31st from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. in Bewley’s Café, 78/79 Grafton Street, Dublin 2.
The Wim Hof Method is an internationally renowned way of working with the breath and the body’s natural rhythms in order to ease tension and stress, thereby leading to improved health and vitality. You can transform how you feel and how you think by learning the Wim Hof Method here in Ireland. Níall frequently offers in-depth workshops, retreats and one-on-one sessions will give you the skills you need to live a healthier, happier and stronger life.
Níall describes his journey with the Wim Hof Method thus:
“It was late and dark. I was sitting on the floor waiting for the printer to finish printing my Wim Hof Method 10-week course manual. ‘I’ll give this a go when I’m waiting,’ I thought, clicking the play button. ‘What’s he saying? Breathe fully in, and what? Let go.’ Josie. my wife, was looking over my shoulder. She saw: reduce stress, deal better with grief and trauma. ‘Right, we’re trying this Wim Hof Method.’”
“Within a few days things had changed. We both woke up bright, alive and laughing. We were enjoying ourselves again. The constant grind of nappies, bottles, crying, work (and doing it all again) didn’t disappear. But, our old tired selves did. Instead, they were replaced with two people who felt full of oxygen, energy and love. Some days, I felt so full of energy I thought: “If I jumped up now, I think I could fly through the roof.”
“This was because we learnt to unlock our body’s potential simply and effectively. We learnt to breathe deeply and profoundly. We learnt to use the cold to awaken our inner energy. We learnt to be focused and relaxed.”
If you are interested in learning more about the amazing benefits of the Wim Hof Method – and giving it a try for yourself – come along to Bewley’s Café, 78/79 Grafton Street, Dublin 2, from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. on Thursday January 31st. Click here to book your tickets.

More about Dan
In his own words…
“Someone recently asked me how I manage to do all this travelling, being away from home so much. I replied that it was simple. Life is a journey, and I am at home wherever I go, wherever I find conscious, heart-centered people who are committed to growth in awareness and love; to healing in spirit, mind and body. My family and friends have always supported me in my quest for Peak Performance, Optimum Health, and Ultimate Potential. Breathwork is my passion and my profession on this journey. I live in service to everyone who is drawn to discover, explore and develop the unlimited Power and Potential of Breath Awareness and Conscious Breathing…
I celebrate the opportunity to travel and teach because it enables me to share my love of Spiritual Breathing, and to promote and advance, and keep learning the Theory and Practice–the Art and Science–of Breathwork. Our generation has given birth to a unique healing modality. The Conscious Breathing Movement is still in its infancy; and in terms of my own practice, it seems to me that I am still a toddler! So, I guess I’ll keep travelling the Path of Breath Mastery as long as the Spirit of Breath keeps moving me, as long as the Angel of Breath keeps guiding me, and as long as people keep inviting me!”

Boost your breath and your bliss with Claire Haugh and Michael Blake
Claire Haugh and Michael Blake are Certified Facilitators of Transformational Breath® – a safe and effective self-empowering healing modality that can transform your health and well-being. Come along and experience the insightful tools of Breathing Analysis and Body Mapping – unique features of Transformational Breath®. Discover how the ‘breathing pattern’ we currently exhibit is a metaphor for the way we approach life and is a product of all those times in the past when we restricted our breathing pattern in order not to feel pain. By reclaiming our breath and consciously breathing fully and freely with our diaphragm, our breathing pattern can become more open – increasing our lung capacity, giving us more aliveness, raising our energy, as well as affording us mental and emotional clarity, greater compassion and a deeper connection to others and to our spirit.
Inhale: Reclaim your breath and embrace your aliveness and totality of being to engage fully with life.
Exhale: Let go of all that has been blocking you from moving forward in your life to be who you truly are.
During this evening introduction to the techniques, discover how the ‘breathing pattern’ we currently exhibit is a metaphor for the way we approach life – and is a product of all those times in the past when we restricted our breathing pattern in order not to feel pain. By reclaiming our breath, breathing fully and freely with our diaphragm, our breathing pattern becomes more open, giving us more aliveness, increased energy, clarity of purpose, greater compassion, and a deeper connection to our spirit.
Why is breathing so important?
Restricted or shallow breathing is a learned response that is triggered by emotions like anger, fear, sadness, pain and stress. Continued over time, a restricted breathing pattern impacts on our general health and well-being. Although we may not be able to control all the elements of the environment around us, we can learn new and better ways to respond. Awareness of our breathing is key to how we manage the circumstances of our life.
“Everyone was struck by the simplicity and effectiveness. Driving home I noticed how my outlook was more positive and my head clear. Definitely an experience worth repeating.” Justine Carbery – freelance journalist, The Gloss Magazine, The Independent and Sunday Independent
